Anglican Clergy Respond to Recent Events
We know that many of you have been following and are deeply troubled by the recent events surrounding the death of George Floyd. These events also weigh heavy on the hearts of our clergy, and have prompted them to reaffirm their stance against racism, and their commitment to making the Church a place of diversity and justice for the sake of the gospel and our Kingdom witness.
Father Shawn and Deacon Ryan recently played a large part in authoring such a letter, which has been signed by hundreds of clergy and laypersons throughout our province. We encourage you to read this letter and reflect on this important aspect of the work of the church.
Also, last week C4SO Bishop Todd Hunter joined fellow Bishops Jim Hobby, Stewart Ruch, and Steve Wood to write a letter to the clergy in their dioceses regarding the death of George Floyd and many others. Archbishop Foley Beach has commended the letter to the entire Anglican Church in North America. Click here to read the Bishops’ letter.
Here at Rez, we have been and will continue to be committed to investing in the work of anti-racism—in our catechesis, discipleship, preaching, ministry, advocacy, and reform. This commitment has been reflected in the past in practices such as our “Who is My Neighbor” discussion series and our Prayers of the People. We are actively exploring other ways we can expand on our mission of building a Church that fully welcomes and serves all members of our diverse community.
