An Update from Light from Light

At Rez, the love of Christ compels us to participate in mission, which we do by supporting organizations that care for people who are suffering in our city and in our world.  One of the organizations we support is Light from Light.  Light from Light works in Haiti in the areas of supporting healthcare, nourishing children, empowering local leaders, and strengthening infrastructure. We recently received a letter from Light from Light updating us on their work and how they are faring in this time of global pandemic, along with information on other ways we can support their work, including by participating in the virtual Hope for Haiti 5K later this month. Thank you, Rez, for your generosity which allows us to send Christ’s love into places of need.

Letter from Elaine Wright, Director of Development, Light from Light

While many of you have heard of Light from Light before, we wanted to provide the whole community at Rez Austin with a brief overview of our work and an update on all that is happening in Haiti at this moment in the face of an international pandemic. Like the rest of the world, Haiti is experiencing a time of unique challenge; however, we at Light from Light are incredibly proud of the work that our partners are doing at the Lespwa Timoun Clinic in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. This place is the embodiment of our mission, which is to strengthen the foundations of progress in Haitian communities, empowering local leaders for long-lasting change.

At the onset of COVID-19 worldwide, the Clinic began preparing itself and educating its patients surrounding the reality of the virus. All patients and doctors at the clinic are required to participate in preliminary temperature screening and to don masks before entering the Clinic. Our nurses are helping to make some of these masks to provide for patients who need them. One of the most creative initiatives was the construction of a Tippy Tap, a low-cost, hands-free way to wash hands and, therefore, reduce the spread of communicable disease. Its installment features written instructions for patients to replicate the same model at home. We will continue to respond to the findings of COVID-19 in real time and are grateful for the dedicated staff at Lespwa Timoun, who have worked hard during this time of uncertainty.

We’re also thankful for your support at Rez Austin, your generosity and prayers have made our mission possible. If you want to get more involved, consider joining our mailing list. All you have to do is visit our website at www.lightfromlight.me and/or follow us on social media @lightfromlight.me. Also, consider registering for the Hope for Haiti 5K that will take place virtually on June 20th in support of the Clinic’s efforts to support healthcare in this difficult time.
